Sault Ste. Marie Waterfront & Parks Canada Locks

The Sault Ste. Marie waterfront is home to some wonderful scenery that you might enjoy as a visitor. The Waterfront Walkway stretches along the shoreline from the Parks Canada Canal site, past the Station Mall, the Roberta Bondar Pavillion, City Hall, Clergue Park, the Art Gallery of Algoma, and ends at the Bushplane Museum site. The Parks Canada Historic Canal site is home to the Canadian Locks that now serve to take pleasure craft up and down between the level of Lake Superior and Lake Huron. These historic locks were built in the late 1800’s for commercial shipping. Visitors can get right up close and actually walk over the lock gates to Whitefish Island to walk some paths that bring you past ponds populated by beavers, ducks, geese and other wildlife. Also on the waterfront is the Roberta Bondar Park and Tent Pavilion. You can see the pavilion when you walk out of the Hotel front entrance. The pavilion is home to many community events, including some free concerts during the summer months. If you hear some sounds on your walk down the waterfront stop in and see what is going on.
